These are screenshots from the Film Pitch done earlier today to the rest of my course. I feel that the presentation went fairly well despite a slightly nervous start from myself.

ROTTERDAM FILM FESTIVAL

As part of the course our tutors organised a trip to the Rotterdam Film Festival. The trip was a fantastic experience as it differed greatly from the trip during second year to Berlinale; with a large amount of experimental and short films to available to go see over a much smaller city. I feel that due to this festival being much smaller we were able to go see more films as the screenings were less geographically spread out. I focused on trying to see as many short films as possible attending three separate short film collections this was a great way of fitting in a wide variety of films in a short space of time. 

Chris Daniels also informed us of a night called Throwing Shadows, which was a night of Japanese Expanded Cinema, in a really interesting underground bar called Worm (which had the most bizarre toilets you've ever seen.) It was an incredible experience as it was something I had never really come across and live it was extremely impressive, although it probably wont directly influence any of my work this year I found that it gave me some really strong ideas for shorts that I intend to make post-graduation and in the years to come.

The selections of shorts varied massively from experimental to narrative films, with an even wider variation of themes from the Syrian war to a girls struggle between masturbation and religion. Some I enjoyed less than others but many of them resonated firmly with how I would like my films to come across.

 We also went a viewed a documentary called ‘Night and Fog in Zona’ by Jung Sung-il. This was a four-hour documentary that was as much a test of resolve as it was a film. There were some good moments and interesting shots however I seriously struggled with it as it was a fairly slow paced portrait. Having said this there were parts and sections that I will take into consideration as I plan on also making quite a slowly paced film so it could help in doing that. Programs for the elderly

This website proved extremely helpful during my research throughout the year. featuring a large variety of film material combating all sorts of age related issues.

Its through this site that I found a vast amount of the films I watched as part of the research process I undertook for the units. The sub-category of 'inspiring seniors films contained many film strongly relating to the themes I wanted to put across within my own practice.

Jobs - Dance

This is a another project I worked with Amber on and it features a dancer we have worked with on a previous film shoot whilst also incorporating two others. The film was made as part of a submission for a competition to perform at and exhibition opening. Amber and myself were asked to make the film on fairly short notice with a day to shoot and edit, I feel the outcome worked nicely and showed the dancers in a good light, however with more planning could have come out a little more variety in shots on my behalf as the cinematographer. It was a fairly simple shoot with the camera remaining static for the utmost of the film with a short amount of handheld. We shot in a dance studio based in the northern quarter in which Ina works as a dance instructor. I feel that working with a contemporary dancers, although it is a completely different style, will eventually be of great help in the filming of my documentary revolving around Tea Dances.

Re-edit Live Project: Behind the scenes

I was asked by Annah, one of the students on Ambers course to help with this project in regard to the lighting. Primarily it was a fashion photoshoot, whilst Amber also filmed a background behind the scenes montage. Prior to the shoot I enquired as to the look of the shoot, how she wanted it to look whilst also taking some time to look at the garments she had made. One of the main themes was that of questioning masculine stereotypes. I decided to therefore go with the LED panel lights as this would help create softer shadows and reaffirm the theme. I also the silver side of the light reflector to help form strong edges on the jawline.

sheffield transport research - times

With the journey taking roughly 1 hour 45 I think it would be best to leave myself 2 hours 15 to get there in case of traffic as getting from Withington to the city centre can as i have found many times take a bit longer than anticipated.

the times obviously show the times if i were to go this evening however the timings should be similar as the train there comes once every hour.
